Bloomfield Cemetery is located in Bryan County, just 2 miles south of Achille, OK. The cemetery sets off the road in a hay pasture. The state of Oklahoma has Bloomfield registered as an official historic site. A monument was placed on Hwy 78 south. After vandalism, the monument remains were moved to the actual cemetery location. As you can see from the pictures, there are several headstones and rock markers in the fenced off area.
In July of 2009, the Tribal Legislature voted on resolution GR 26-057 Authorization for Acquisition of Real Property in Bryan County. The property is located one block from a main thorough fare into Colbert, and highway 69 access. The size of the acreage is 3.22 acres and comes with a 4,823sq.ft.building and a paved and lighted parking lot. Tribal Development made the recommendation to purchase the property for use as a senior site.
In May 2010 Chickasaw Times, pictures of the ribbon cutting for the new Legislative and Judicial Buildings were featured. General Resolution 24-009 was passed in November 2006, to approve the construction of a new Legislative Building. The new facility is 13,360 sq,ft. and contains 19 offices, a main meeting room, an archive/safe room and 2 large conference
rooms.
In June of 2006, GR 23-074 was introduced and passed for the construction of a new Judicial Building. The project was completed in tandem with the New Legislative Building. The new facility is 12,500sq.ft. It houses our 3 Supreme Court Justices, the District Judge and the Court Advocates.
Bloomfield Academy was established in 1852 to benefit Chickasaw children. It burned in 1914 and was later relocated to Ardmore, Ok. in Carter County. In 1934, Bloomfield was renamed in honor of Charles D. Carter. Bloomfield/Carter Seminary was the first missionary boarding school for girls.
